That time I took a yarn bath
Every once in a while, pictures of someone in a bathtub full of yarn make their way around the internet. I saw my first one years ago, and immediately knew it was something I had to do. Eventually. While it was immediately added to my crafty bucket list, alongside things such as make (and actually finish) a granny square blanket, it remained nothing more than a wish for several years. The blanket has yet to come to fruition, but I can now officially say I’ve bathed in yarn!
With my yarn stash dwindling toward the end of 2024, and an uncertain economic and political climate ahead, I thought it best to restock my stash. I carefully planned out an array of colors to be sure I had all my favorites, plus some basic colors and new pretty shades to try. Then I waited for Black Friday sales, because your girl knows how to bargain shop!
Now, time machine moment: back in June, we moved into what is our hopefully forever home, which happens to have a clawfoot tub in a pink and white bathroom.
The bathtub in question
I also had some amazing family photos taken with Photography by Riva in December.
With two large boxes of yarn en route, I realized that all the pieces were moving into place to finally have the yarny photoshoot I had dreamed of! The biggest obstacle? I also broke my tailbone in December, and hadn’t been in the tub since! We picked a date a few weeks out and hoped I’d be up for it. Luckily, it turns out it was the perfect amount of time to let me heal so that I could actually get in and out of the tub!
The day came, I coated the bottom of the tub with pillows, and we got to work!

We had so fun trying out different poses and playing with yarn! It was honestly delightful to lay there while literal boxes of yarn were dumped on top of me.

I didn’t want to confuse my colorways or mix up dye lots, so I chose to keep the labels on (almost) all of the skeins. Even so, I could barely tell that they were there - it wasn’t uncomfortable at all. The hardest part may have actually been trying not to sink down into the yarn altogether, because it was so cozy! (Trying not to accidentally turn on the faucet was easily the second hardest part)

One thing that really struck me during the whole process is how many small businesses contributed to this photo shoot, most without even knowing so!
Obviously Photography by Riva is a star here! But who else?

This shoot was so much fun and everything I had hoped it would be. Definitely a silly dream come true!
